Most of my finding are from videos
that I found online. Yes I know I've heard it, "You can't trust what's on
the internet", "those are just hate videos" or what have you.
The thing is I looked at what they said, and found it to be true. The majority
of what I found was from church websites.
This video mainly points out
that no one can work their way into Heaven. Some scriptures to keep in
mind while you watch this: Galatians 1:6-9 " I marvel
that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of
Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there
are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But
even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what
we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I
say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have
received, let him be accursed." And 2 Nephi 25:23 "For we labor
diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe
in Christ, and be reconciled to God; For we know that it is by grace
that we are saved, after all we can do." vs. Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest
anyone should boast."
We all have a dark side, we do
whether we like it or not. Have you ever told a lie, stole anything,
used Gods name in vain, or looked at a person in lust. Jesus says that if you
have ever looked at a person with lust you have committed adultery in
your heart, and that Jesus is the only way to get into heaven. A person
that would like to enter into heaven must do the following: repent of your
sins, believe that Jesus is the Christ your Savior, and Confess with your mouth
to all that you have been saved (share the good news). My response to this:
this is true. Jesus says in Matthew 5:28 that if you have looked at a woman in
lust you have committed adultery in your heart. Jesus also says in 1 John 3:15
that if you have ever in angry at another person, you have committed murder in
your heart. If you have ever stolen anything, no matter how small, you are a
thief. Mark 3:28-30 if you have ever used the Lords name in vain, you are a
blasphemer, and that is unforgivable. But the good news in this is that 2,000
years ago God sent is only Son Jesus in all is magnificent glory, grace, and
love, to punish Him for your sin. To punish Him for my sin. I
will be the first to admit that I have done all of these things. And that without
my wonderful Savior, I would not make it to heaven, my just God would not allow
it. But He loved me, and He loved you so much that He sent his only Son, the
spotless Lamb to take your place and mine. So that if we repent, believe, and
confess with our mouths that Jesus is the Christ, he is our Savior, then we can
stand at the judgment seat spotless! And we will be allowed into heaven. No one
can work their way into heaven.
This next video takes more of a
historical point of view, it looks for historical evidence to support
Book of Mormon events.
The Book of Mormon was supposed to
have taken place in the Americas, but:
- The Jaredites were prophesied to be the largest nation
in the Book of Mormon, but there is no evidence.
- 1 Nephi 18:25 say's that there was cows, oxen, horses
and goats. There weren't any horses in America before 1540.
- Mosiah 9:9 speaks of wheat and barley. Wheat was not
consumed in America until 1602
- Nephites supposedly kept really good record of things.
No writings have been found to support this.
- The Book of
Mormon was first written on the gold plates. Neither the Aztecs, Native
Americans, nor the Mayans kept record on Metal.
- Mormon 9:32 says that the gold plates were written
in reformed Egyptian. Neither linguist nor Egyptologist have found record
of reformed Egyptian.
- Alma 11 speaks of the monetary system of the Nephites,
claiming they used gold and silver. Ancient Americans did not use gold and
silver for money. Instead they used coco beans, coffee beans, or clam
shells.
- 400 AD supposed extermination of the Lamanites. No
evidence to support this.
- Ether 15 and Mormon 8:2 speak of huge battles. There
has been no mass graves, swords, or any other evidence to support this.
- 2 Nephi 5:16 says that Nephi built a temple like unto
King Solomon's. Jew's are not allowed to build temples anywhere but Mt.
Moriah, aka the Temple Mount. Also priests were only from the bloodline of
Aaron, not Joseph (It was against the Old Testament laws for anyone to be
a priest outside of the bloodline of Aaron).
- Bible figures are well known, Book of Mormon figures
are not.
- No way to back up the prophecies/events from the Book
of Mormon, you can historically back the Bible.
- The Bible is written in the correct language for the
time, the Book of Mormon is not.
- There is Evidence to Support Jesus, and Christianity,
in the Middle East. There is no evidence in the America's to support the
Book of Mormon.
As you can see, there is quite a bit
of historical evidence that does not support the Book of Mormon. I had
brought some of these points up with my Mom the last time I discussed
my change of views with her. She had brought out a book that had artifacts that
supposedly belonged to the people in the Book of Mormon. You have to ask yourself
though, why would professionals lie? What would these people have to gain
lying, and not stating their professional opinion? The Bible has been used to
help Archeologists locate things, wouldn't the Book of Mormon (if true) do the
same in the Americas? There are a few more things I would like to leave
you with until next time. Growing up I always heard about the burning in the
bosom; Moroni 10 say's that we should ponder these things in our hearts, but
the bible says in Jeremiah 17:9 and Proverbs 28:26 that the heart is
desperately wicked, and anyone who trusts his heart his a fool, but whoever
walks wisely will be delivered. In a 2002 conference Gordon B. Hinckley himself
said that the church does not believe in the same Christ as the Bible.
John 14:6 "Jesus said to him " I am the way, the truth, and the life . No one comes to the Father except through Me."" Also see John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says to test all things and to hold fast to what is good, and Isaiah 40:8 tells us that the grass withers, the flowers fade but the word of God stands forever.
